chains, but William K is known for its excellent beer selection
- and our picky bar connoisseur in Helsinki approves.

KORJAAMO BAR & LOUNGE (also called the "culture factory
Korjaamo") is a former indoor ailyard/repair shop for trams. A
cozy place that has an art gallery and sometimes features bands.
The bar serves lunch, "pick-me-up" breakfast foods during weekends & culture events in the evenings. The wine list is put together with an eye on the latest Viini (wine) magazine "top picks".
The bar extends out to a pleasant beer garden. There is an art gallery, open daily, and a picnic park, open for everyone, in the courtyard.
Parvi, the upstairs lounge, can be hired for private
events. "Friendly service & fresh food ingredients".

VASTARANNAN KIISKI
Excellent beer selection. 14 tap beers, from light lager to dark
stout, in addition to a large bottle selection.
The name is idiomatic Finnish that roughly translates to "The Obdurate Contrarian". A transliteration actually yields "the blacktail perch of the opposite shore".
Vastaranta = "opposite shore".
"Kiiski" = "blacktail perch", a.k.a. ruffe, pope or redfin darter.
Address: Runeberginkatu 26, 00100 Helsinki,
Phone: -(358)-(0)9- 35084736

Vastarannan Kiiski is actually part of a beer/fish restaurant chain.
Check out Punavuoren Ahven ("the Perch of Punavuori" = Red Mountain) and Janoinen Lohi("janoinen" = "thirsty" , "lohi" = "salmon") of the same chain.
Again, we do not readily promote chains, but these cutely named
fish/beer restaurants have an excellent beer selection -and our picky bar connoisseur in Helsinki approves.

Explore the old working class neighborhood, Kallio, where lots of
students and artists now live.
Helsinginkatu (Helsinki Street) is filled with cheaply priced bars,
most of them depressing dives, which we do not recommend.
But there are some more "trendy" places in the area worth visiting:
Bar KOLA Relaxed, bohemian, elegant, trendy (but not too trendy),
cozy & bright. "The living room of Kallio". Nice additional touch: the
exhibition on the wall that changes every month.
