Helsinki winters can be truly magical! Just make sure you have really warm clothes with you. And warm winter boots that are not slippery ;-) Greetings from: Been there, learned that the hard way.

HELSINKI WINTER: The Kappeli Restaurant building, is a historic structure in Helsinki's Esplanade Park. In the background you see Eteläesplanadi (South Esplanade).
HELSINKI CENTER:
Winter in Esplanade Park, facing Pohjoisesplanadi (North Esplanade) and Kamp Hotel.
Winters in Helsinki can be brutally cold, but stunningly beautiful. Sometimes they are relatively mild.

HELSINKI'S SOUTH HARBOR & MARKET, WINTER:
A rigidly cold winter night view of Helsinki's South Harbor, clad in snow: On the left you see the
Market Hall, straight ahead is the Helsinki City
City Hall (Kaupungintalo in Finnish), and behind City Hall is the Helsinki Cathedral, a.k.a. the Dome (Tuomiokirkko in Finnish). Behind the ship is the area that hosts
the splendid South Harbor Market Square (Kauppatori in Finnish).
The Presidential Palace (Presidentin Linna in Finnish) ) is located beyond the right border of the photo.
Yes, Winter in Helsinki can be so cold. South Harbor - so beautiful in its winter gear. The Market Hall, above, left, is a splendid place to shop for food, fresh fish, meat, bread, cheese, fruit, farm
produce, little pies or pirogies, wine, etc. Or to grab a little snack in its cafes. In the summer we sometimes grab picnic food there, before setting out to some of the nearby city owned islands.

Icy mist over Helsinki's South Harbor. Valkosaari and Klippan islands are shrouded in the lacy, cold winter mist. Suomenlinna is somewhere behind the icy veil in the background.
Above, from left: A blurry winter image of the Kappeli building /
Kappeli restaurant. (I blame the cold and my shivering hands).
Center & right: A winter view from the breakfast room of Palace Hotel in Helsinki, our hotel of choice (because we love the sea views).
