Welcome to MY BEST HELSINKI PHOTOS 2
SUMMER in HELSINKI
We love Helsinki summers! In the summer it, and the surrounding islands, are gorgeous. Worth exploring.
One of our favorite walking routes in Helsinki starts from the area of the South Harbor Market Square, and
mostly follows the shoreline, past Kaivopuisto - to Ullanlinna - to Eira - and beyond. Most of the photos below
are from one of these leisurely walks. We often also hop on a taxi boat, to get out to one of the beautiful public
islands, which are city parks. The sea is usually quite clean, so many people swim off the islands.
Helsinki summer: View from Kaivopuisto Park, in the heart of Helsinki. Suomenlinna Island ahead. We are almost in the center of Helsinki: Kaivopuisto park & Harakka island:
Helsinki city is a real summer paradise, with its long shores, and many islands.
The popular Cafe Ursula by the Kaivopuisto shoreline promenade, left & below (glass structure with blue and grey roof), is located on the Kaivopuisto shore, by the beautiful promenade that meanders along
and around the peninsula, from the city center to Kaivopuisto, to Ullanlinna to Eira...

Meditation on Liuskasaari island. Take the little boat from Merisatama to the neighboring
island, Uunisaari, that is a city park. Travel time about 3 minutes. Walk over from there.
Closer to South Harbor:
From left: a glimpse of Viking line ferry, Valkosaari island, Luoto island & far right Suomenlinna island (a World Heritage site, and definitely worth visiting) with its old light house.
View from Kaivopuisto / Ullanlinna to Uunisaari Island, a city park.
The "very posh" buildings on Merikatu, in the "very posh" neighborhood, Ullanlinna. (Ulla's castle)On board the small taxi boat to Uunisaari Island - a city park - a great picnic destination. The
island is very popular among locals. The trip takes only about 3 minutes
and is definitely worth your while. You will be in an "countryside" island setting in a few short moments. Bring picnic food, a blanket, bathing suits and towels. Enjoy.
Below, more Helsinki Summer Paradise: On the roof deck of a taxi boat,
arriving at Pihlajasaari island for picnic & swimming. A great day to spend an afternoon or day.
Helsinki Empire center view: Looking toward the Dome, Market Square, Presidential Palace and Uspenski Cathedral. Behind the photographer rises a hill called Tähtitorninmäki (Star Tower Hill). It is a park
with great views. Definitely worth the climb. The energetic visitor can continue from there through the neighborhood of Ullanlinna & Kaivopuisto, toward the beautiful Kaivopuisto park, by the sea.
